In 2007, at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, the world's largest advertising awards competition, Tsuneo Watanabe, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of The Yomiuri Shimbun Holdings received the Media Person of the Year Award.
The award, given to prominent individuals in the media industry around the world, was presented to Mr. Watanabe in recognition of his outstanding contributions to media industry and his leadership of The Yomiuri Shimbun Holdings, which includes The Yomiuri Shimbun—the newspaper with the world's largest combined morning-evening circulation at about 14 million copies—as well as TV broadcasting network, publishing interests, a professional baseball team, and more.
